A little bit abstract…

I find it very easy to stay in one place with my embroidery. I use my needle as a pencil and use that pencil to draw faces in black thread.

Well let’s say I’ve gone rogue. I’ve lost the run of myself. I’m using all the colours and there isn’t a face to be seen.

How do you follow your gut when you love to follow the rules?

So this new departure began with some fabric paint. I was designing costumes for a theatre show and part of the process was using fabric paint. I am not one to embrace colour but I chose to dive in feet first.

It turns out the key to using colour is to find balance. Start with your base layer and know when and where to add the POPS.

What is refreshing about working in the abstract is that you are working on 100% instinct. (This is the scary part). There is no likeness to achieve (as opposed to portraiture). There are no rules to follow (I love rules).
