Just one more row?
Crochet for me is what I do to keep my hands busy. It satisfies the addictive side of my nature. The repeated chant of “just one more row before bed”, has often left me up until after midnight. Once I start I find it very difficult to stop. And once I fix on a new hobby I need to really get to know it and understand it. It’s almost like playing a computer game. I want to keep levelling up until I get to fight the boss at the end (ok, I know that doesn’t make sense) But I want to win crochet. (oh, I didnt mention I’m also incredibly competitive). But I know some of you makers out there understand. That feeling of discovering a new craft or technique and wanting to know so much about it that you can eventually put away the rules and start making your own rules. That is how I became obsessed with mosaic crochet.
What is mosaic crochet?
At a basic level, mosaic crochet creates interesting colour patterns by working different colours of yarn down into previous rows to create a colour pattern. This is often preferred over tapestry crochet because you only work one colour per row, and don't have to deal with the complications of switching colours mid-row.
When you look at the back side of mosaic crochet you will see that it is only a striped pattern. All you are doing is one row after another of single crochet and changing colour every row.
The pattern is created on the front side when you drop a double crochet to the row below.
And then I levelled up
So you might say I got to the boss level, beat him and levelled up. My creative curious brain was no longer satisfied with following patterns. I wanted to create them.
And yes, a new obsession was born. Turns out creating patterns is just as addictive for me as following them.
